Okay, I don't know where it came from or when/how it became so popular, but I can't go a day anymore without hearing the word "props." I'm already sick of it.

Any other nominations?

Normalcy.

Don't care if it was in use before Warren Harding spewed it in his presidential address. Don't care that it connected with the people and that it's in the dictionary. It's a terrible word. It's NOT a word.

I'm not usually snobbish about anything, but I turn my nose up at this word. That, and "a whole nother." As in, we don't need a whole nother word that means the exact same thing as normality.

Uber.

Every fiber of my being hates this word. Is it even in the dictionary? Oh, another one I hate is LOL. There's nothing wrong with using it on the internet, while texting, whatever, but saying it out loud just makes you sound stupid.

Now that I've gotten that off my chest, I feel so much better. :)

I can't stand the word propagate. It's annoying.

I can't really think of any real words that make me sick, but when the press makes up "cute" combo names for celebrity couples ("Bennifer" being the one that springs immediately to mind) it makes me want to scream at them to grow up.

OOO...just thought of one.

Bromance.

Makes me throw up a bit.

Brilliant!

I believe the Brits, who used to speak English well, started this crap. Now used as a reply to everything except stuff that requires sound judgment.

Person A: "I bought a couple Cupcake Cars on sale for $23,499 instead of $25,000."
Person B: "Brilliant!"

Cupcake Cars? Yeah, that's what I said.

"pwned!"

That means 'owned'?! What the hell? That's not a word. And if it is it is misspelled for 'Pawned' in my opinion. As in, "I pawned my watch."

That's the one that bothers me most at the moment.

Great stuff, but just today I replaced "props" with "apps" as my least favorite new word.

My new goal in life is to die app-free.

I don't so much have a word that annoys me as a usage. Too often people say things like, "Since I want to go to the store, I'll leave now," when what they really mean is "Because I want to go. . . ." "Since" is time related as in, "Since last Thursday, I've been ill." It does not mean "because."

Similarly, I'm bothered by the use of "due to" when one means "because" or "as a result of." Due refers to a debt owed, not a cause or reason for something.

Two final complaints and I'll get off my high horse and back to writing.

"In harms way" -- why not just say, "in danger" or "sending our troops into combat," which is what we are talking about?

"The rule of law" -- what is that anyway? A rule is the lowest form of a law, the U.S. Constitution being our highest. We are indeed a nation of laws or a nation that follows the law, but who came up with this "rule of law" thing and WHY?????

pedagogy

sounds like some weird foot disease.

Well, that's an old word, but anyway.

bling is probably my least favorite 'new' word.

Oh look, I killed another thread by commenting on it. My bad.

I really, really hate that phrase. People use it to excuse all sorts of behavior. Did I push the wrong button and drop a WMD on your city? My bad.

Don't even get me started on the obsession with acronyms that seems to have gripped this planet. . .
