Welcome All!

I hope you are all finding your way around here with satisfactory ease. I'd like to take a quick second to suggest that particular topics are probably best kept in the "Discussion Forum" to facilitate easy navigation and discussion flow.

The "Comment Wall" is a great place to introduce yourself to the group and share items of common interest (Fiction)! ** Please note that the comment wall is not the place for public comments irrelevant to fiction writing! Such discussions are better suited for other forums, thank you! **

So dive on in and let's see what sort of penned partnerships we can develop!

Rewriting Lost Work ... So Painful 26 Replies

Anyone else familiar with the pain of putting in long hours over a project, just to have the computer crash or electricity go out? Why is it so painful to rewrite ideas previously, even recently, put…

Self Publishing Journey-Day 20, The Editing Process 6 Replies

So to jump right in I’ll start by saying that anticipating a response on the edits to your novel is torture. Xlibris does a great job by updating me on my novel and informing me where it is at as far…

I think Nano is meant for those writers who just can't stop editing, and never finish their story. I like to go back at the beginning of each session and go over what I did the day before, editing as necessary, but I haven't been stuck on editing yet. On the other hand, I'm with you -- my Nano story is only 52,000 words right now, but I haven't touched it out of being intimidated by the amount of work that needs to be done on the thing.

Nano was too fast for me, too. I'm an 'edit-as-you-go' writer, and the thought having to edit a completely rough 85,000 word manuscript makes me feel nauseous. ;) Different writing styles!

That's amazing, Claire. It was all I could do to write 53,000 words in one month for Nanowrimo; the way I usually write, a rough draft takes close to six months. That includes working around the jobs, of course!

I think you're right that going faster means more editing later, though, and I usually do a little editing along the way on the first draft. Nanowrimo was just moving too fast for my taste.
