Hi Alice! I'm in the same boat as you -- though, only since '99! For me, it was "life happens" that took me away from it and it took about five years to get back to it, working now and then on it. I have the potential for several more 'spin-off' boo…
Okay...here's mine...(I assume this is where I post it) one I've created for a personalized storybook...the words spelled would vary, depending on what the parent wants in the story. It's 766 words...so a bit longer than you requested

Thanks, Ruth -- and that's a good point about the amount to post. It just seems like 3-4 paragraphs won't get the reader very far...but maybe that means I need whittle it down to more 'meat', less fluff...
And, I did find a group where I could post…
Debra, First of all, welcome! I am not sure what the moderator of this group prefers. Perhaps he/she will comment on this for you. If you are looking for a critique, I would suggest posting it in one of the critique groups. How much you post depends…
Thank you, Pen! I do appreciate your feedback and, yes -- new paragraphs for dialog -- a no-brainer and I really should know better! (thank you, she said sheepishly ^,^).
More manageable paragraph segments sound very good -- thank you.

Hi Debra, your prose while executed well is too densely constucted. Please break your paragraphs into smaller, more manageable segments. And I would be remiss if I didn't mention that dialogue always gets a new paragraph, even if its a simple yes or…
Tricia--thank you so much for your input! Very instructive and very helpful. Now, all I have to do is follow through (the hard part will be condensing the class scene into a sentence or two...oh, how I do like to stretch out the stuff--cutting is ha…
So is this based on a true story?
Pull the reader in with the first sentence.
quickly pulled out her classwork. Take out as many 'ly' words as you can.
I would suggest condensing the whole class scene to a sentence or two.

This is a personalized story, targeting a 14 year old Christian girl. I have fleshed out the beginning and the end -- the meat of the story still remains untouched (I need more details from her mom before starting it). I would appreciate feedback si…
I love to write: I am working on a children's fiction; perform spontaneous storytelling & create & bind personalized children's stories.
The storytelling is for young children from 4 or 5 to approximately 12 years of age. The personalized stories are either faith-based or secular short stories. The novel I'm working on is a science fiction (fantasy) for elementary school-aged chapter book readers.
I have been asked to turn my novel, once completed, into a screenplay so it can be (in part) performed at a school competition in Hong Kong -- which excites me, but also seems a bit overwhelming!
My other hats are massage therapist, freelance photographer, mother and Christian -- not necessarily in that order!
I always worry when I critique someone's work that feelings will be hurt. Esp. when you're strangers. You are a very gracious woman. I wish you all the luck with your writing.
