I just want to recommend the true book bu Doretta Johnson, The People in the Attic. It's an amazing paranormal story about her house being haunted. But it doesn't leave it at that. Nothing so simple. It's almost post-modernist non-fiction, as it sho…

About Me
I have a class online through writerscollege on experimental fiction writing: http://writerscollege.com/catalogs/experimentalfiction.html

It's time to sign up for a class online through UCLU Extension for experimental fiction writing starting in April. You will interact with other students for this intensive chance to explore post-modernist prose. contact me for details.

http://experimentalwriting.weebly.com is a page I created recently with a lot of links about experimental fiction, poetry, and non-fiction.

I have been focused on writing all my life, and have over 100 creative writing publications, and at least as many non fiction articles, plus books, and interviews. I've won some awards here and there, but usually don't enter the darn things, so some have been editor's pick prizes, such as at Cezanne's Carrot.

I have a column at Unlikely Stories 2.0 called Opposites Day, used to be Art Director at Mad Hatters Review, and was on staff at MKzine, and other such connections with magazines, which I really enjoy. I've always been focused on magazines, and used to have my own for awhile, and one day would like to do one spotlighting Lucid Fiction, the genre I promote. I don't necessarily try to publish in major magazines, but in ones that I admire for their innovation, integrity, attention to social reform, spirituality, surrealism, and such, especially if they ask me to publish with them, such as SWI.

Some of my fiction is inspired by art, film, music, poetry, dance, meditations, dreams, playing absurdly in costumes and going into ridiculous characters. I'm also an artist, musician, and film maker, who loves to dance, teaches meditation, and am engaged to a man who loves to play goofily as much as I do, and learned a lot of how to play from my son.

My favorite type of experimental fiction is something I write often myself, and write about a lot as well, which I call "Lucid Fiction," which is the fiction of our new paradigm, as our illusions created by those in charge of keeping us dumbed down and believing in the dream are being exposed more and more. As the fiction becomes less possible to continue, it wakes up.

Lucid Fiction also goes beyond the accepted ideas of what a character, and a person is, what is required for a plot, as well as experiments in structure and presentation, and forbidden subject matter that breaks apart the illusions mass media, and mainstream fiction keep intact as much as they can.
What Do You Write?
Poetry, Fiction, Non Fiction
How Many Years Have You Been Writing?
all my life
Favorite Books and Authors
experimental fiction and ecstatic poetry, Tom Robbins, Italo Calvino, Nabokov, Alain Robbe-Grillet, Claude Simone, Paul Auster, Richard Brautighan, Robert Bly, James Tate, Octavio Paz, unfortunately, my list contains mostly men, but I like a lot of less famous writers I find in magazines, including women. My favorite book for teaching experimental writing is On a Winter's Night a Traveler.

Betty and the House of Spirits

I was telling my father and his ....girlfriend....that i was writing from the viewpoint of the house for part of my story. and she said--this house DOES talk! She said there are ghosts that walk around when my fiance and I re gone, and she can hear them talking in other rooms. If I hadn't mentioned that, I don't know when she would ever have told me. Now, I might mention the whole thing in my story, make it into even more of a metastory.

Experimenting with my point of view beyond the human

In the story I'm writing, I'm writing from the viewpoint of various characters, but also parts of the house, especially because they're infused with the aura of the people who live in it. Some parts of the house are infused more than others. The ones that are less infused are less humanized, and though it's tempting to make them humancentric, it's more interestingly challenging not to.

Irony of non-irony

I'm having fun starting a new fiction piece today, based on truth. My character, me, has some quirky interests, and beliefs, or so they would seem to most people. I take them seriously, though see the humor in how some people would see them.

So, I'm adding that into the story, and playing with the idea that normally, people would read about me and think i'm making fun of my character, that the reader isn't supposed to take me seriously, are supposed to see irony in it. I'm saying it's not so! W… Continue

Thankyou, Tantra, for inviting me to be your friend. Also, your kind words about my postings around this site were very thoughtful, and they made me very happy. It's a great honor for a master of conceptual perception to ask me to be her friend. Your work with " Lucid Fiction " is absolutely brilliant. Not very many people are born with the gift- and I daresay that it is indeed a gift- to know what certain people and groups are trying to foist upon us poor " dumbed down " souls. And yet, you allow your playful nature to keep your soul open and free. Write with joy and always... always with your soul!

Thank you so much for taking the time to look at my blog! Much appreciated for your feedback as well. If you head to the archives, there are actually little "snippets" from each book when they were first introduced :)
For the last two books I couldn't put a snippet because of the general plot (didn't want to spoil it).
Thanks again for taking a look and your feedback was great!!!

I love it: Cigars and puppies at Vonnegut's house -- it all seems so charmingly perfect. I would have been right there in the bushes, too.

Yes! And Tom Robbins. On a total random side note, I once met Vonnegut in a bookstore in Indianapolis. I shuffled my feet awkwardly and told him I like his books, to which he replied, "Thanks. So do I," then went outside to smoke. Somehow, it made me love him even more.

Namaste Tantra,
Thanks so much for adding me as a friend. I'm not sure if I'll have the time for your class. I started my biyearly house cleaning this week. If I'm ahead of schedule, I might be able to do it. I'll check it out and see... Have a wonderful Thursday.

Cheers,

Thanks, windspiritgirl! It looks like the hosting site is down right now, so I'll let you know when it's up again.
I guess if I'd stayed with only one type of creative outlet, I'd be father ahead now, but I like how they work together, and inspire each other. I've always wanted to do all of them since I was a child, and feel lucky I've been able to.
what other kinds of things do you do? do you find any of them helpful in literary experimentation?
